Summer Goals Accomplished and Celebrated Story and Photography by Valeria Brito (South High Senior)

The South High Library hosted a summer reading challenge from May 31st to August 18th that encouraged Spartan students to read and complete activities on BeanStack to earn badges. South High librarian, Mrs. Rude, hosted a party in the library on August 31st where the winners of the summer challenge enjoyed some pizza and soda for their dedication to reading. According to Andrea Nieves (12), this is what made this event special to her, she stated, “I did this challenge with my friends and had fun while doing it.” Another challenge winner, Jessica Gasca (12) had this to say about her favorite book that she read over the summer, “I think my favorite book I read this summer was a book called ‘Fourth Wing’. It was a mix of fantasy, action and romance, and the plot was really interesting. I really loved the characters as well.” Students were also rewarded with a free shirt, one free book, and a prize of their liking. The celebration brought students together who enjoy the same love for the hobby of reading. These Spartans are starting the beginning of the school year strong by showing us what it means to accept a challenge and conquer it!
