South High Celebrates Students who did it RIGHT on the STAR Interview by Andrea Cardenas (South High Junior)

The STAR reading test measures how students’ reading levels change over the school year. The goal for students is to increase their reading level and to try and reach their current grade level. During the month of March, South High awarded groups of students who accomplished one, or both, of these goals. On March 16th, teachers in their second period classes recognized all South High Students that had improved a grade and a half, or more, based on the STAR. Each student received a certificate and a pack of Starburst for their “sweet” accomplishment. Certificates and Starbursts were also given out on March 29th to students who were reading on, or above, grade level. Gizelle Cruz (12) was one of the students recognized that day and she said that “It made me feel accomplished. It was nice to be rewarded for something I did.”
