Spartan Softball leads league after defeating Tehachapi 6-4

The South High Varsity Spartans took the lead late and defeated the Tehachapi Warriors 6-4 on Thursday.  The game was tied at three with the Spartans batting in the top of the sixth when Jimena Flores doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

The Spartans had a lead in the second inning with three scores.  In that inning the Spartans offense was led by Yoselin Bringas and Scarlett Lopez, who sent runners across the plate with RBIs. Two of the runs scored were off Lopez's single.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Tehachapi tied things up at three, highlighted by a double that scored two runs.

The Spartans took the lead for good when Flores doubled in the sixth and then another score in the top of the 7th to lead 6-3.  The Warriors tried to answer in the bottom of the 7th, scoring one run.  The win puts the Spartans in first place in their league.

Lopez was the winning pitcher for South Varsity Spartans. The righty allowed six hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out nine.

The Spartans had eight hits in the game.  Lopez and Monica Chavez each had multiple hits for South.
