Get to Know South High School’s Teacher of the Year: Angie Bennett By Briana Ibarra and Samantha Romero (South High Seniors)

Dr. Angie Bennett said she felt “honored” when she was named the 2022-2023 South High School Teacher of the Year for her hard work and dedication to her students inside and outside the classroom. Dr. Bennett has been teaching since 1997. She began teaching at South High in 2016 and since then she has become an integral part of the school community. We spoke to Dr. Bennett to get to know more about her, her inspiration for teaching and her love for art: “What inspired me to become a teacher was my family and my experience as a librarian. When I worked as a librarian, many students would come up to me and ask me about many different topics. I often wondered what they did with that information, and I realized that I wanted to help teach information to students, so that experience helped inspire me to become a teacher. What I love about art is that you can express yourself in so many ways; you can pour your ideas and your mind onto paper, and it will show how you are feeling, or it will reveal a feeling you can’t express in person.” Dr. Bennett exemplifies what it truly means to do it RIGHT at South High by providing her students with a safe and caring environment to fully express themselves. She strives to make her classroom a welcoming place where students can thrive and learn new skills. South High is lucky to have Dr. Angie Bennett as their Teacher of the Year!
