Welcome Home Spartans: The First Day of School By Arianna Almontes (South High Senior)

South High School opened their gates on August 16th, 2023 to welcome a new group of freshmen along with returning sophomores, juniors and seniors for their first day of school. The hallways were filled with nervous excitement as students and staff passed unfamiliar faces while trying to figure out their new schedule. One freshman, Angelino Ramirez, shared his experience with his new schedule when he said this, “I was trying to get my schedule switched around and figure my classes out all day, so my day was pretty long.” In contrast, some seniors, such as Alex Lomely who shared the following, have gotten ahead on credits so they can have excused periods in their schedule: “My first day went pretty good. I only have four classes so it was a pretty short day for me, but I really enjoyed my anatomy class.” As South High enters our third full year as Spartans, the school makes sure to continue core traditions, such as having Link Crew assist students to class and having cheerleaders in uniform on the first day of school. To make the 2023-2024 school year even better, the campus has recently received paint, signage and equipment updates that make South High feel modern and inviting to students, staff and the community. Let’s make this a great year, Spartans!
