South at their First Home Football Game By Victor Reyes Casillas (South High Senior)

Coming right out of the gate, South High’s Varsity Football Team pulled out an amazing performance and an excellent game at their first home game of the season against Porterville High School on Friday, August 25th. Spartan Stadium was packed with students, staff, families and community members who were excited to welcome the 2023 football season. The cheerleaders put on a great half-time performance and kept the crowd engaged during the hard-fought game. The Spartan Regiment also performed pieces from their 2023 field show, showing off the skills they’ve been working on since band camp in July. After the game had ended, the football team looked fired up to make a comeback at their next game. One player, David Mejia (12), stated, “I think overall we did pretty good, we had a bit of mistakes with our passes and blocks, but we hope to get better.” The team has just gotten started, and they will bring their A-game on their next game and show their Spartan Pride, because Spartans do it what? Spartans do it RIGHT!
