After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens Program (ASSETs Program)

NOTICE OF INTENT TO APPLY

The Kern High School District (KHSD) is providing this notice of intent to apply for the After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens Program. The application is due on or before November 15, 2018. This notice outlines KHSD’s plan for submitting the application through the California Department of Education. This notice identifies KHSD as the Local Education Agency responsible for submitting the application for funding. The application and any waiver request will be available for public review after submission of the application.

KHSD currently operates one expanded learning program at Arvin High School. The program provides students with academic support, enrichment opportunities, and a nutritious snack and dinner at no cost to students or families.

KHSD is applying for the After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens Program grant in order to fund expanded learning programs to seven additional sites in KHSD for the 2019-2020 school year: East, Foothill, Golden Valley, Mira Monte, North, Shafter or South. The successful Arvin High expanded learning program is currently in high demand and meeting student and family needs in that community. KHSD intends to apply for funding in order to serve the maximum number of students possible at sites where there is most need for free, daily expanded learning programs.

We also take this opportunity to inform private schools, faith-based organizations, and community-based organizations serving young people and families in our area of our intent to provide safe, accessible academic support, enrichment opportunities, and family literacy programs in the aforementioned schools. Parties interested in participating in our proposal are asked to contact Felisa Patiño-Longoria at 661-827-3285 or send Felisa an email.
