Breaking down Rhythms with Drumline By Carlos Encinas (South High Senior)

The South High School drumline showed off its show “Time for Polyrhythms” at the first and second competitions of their competitive season on January 28th at Centennial High school and Golden Valley High School on February 4th. The drumline and color guard compete in a circuit called “P.P.A.A.C.C.” (Pep & Pageantry Arts Association of Central California). Jesus Meraz, one of the coaches, had this to say, “I think there’s a lot to improve on, but we're off to a great start. I believe they will grow and build off this experience for the rest of the season.”  Other local competitors in their division include Frontier, Golden Valley, Arvin, Centennial and Highland. The drumline came home with a score of 65.9 at their first competition and 61.2 at their second competition which lays a great foundation for the rest of the season. The head coach, Angel Pintor, had this to say about the group, “This group is developing into great performers, and we’re excited to see what's next.” If you would like to support our Spartan percussion, then you can come to see them at their next show on March 4th at Independence High School.
