MS3 Academy
Local businesses have pledged their support through curriculum development, lessons, mentoring, field trips, and possible senior internships to help prepare students with lifelong skills in workforce readiness. The focus will be on Engineering and the pathway Industrial and Technology Education. Bakersfield and Kern County offer many career opportunities in engineering and other STEM related occupations. In addition to the major oil producers and refineries, we have a network of companies that support both the agriculture and petroleum industries. The Kern job market is understaffed in the areas of instrumentation, automation, process control, maintenance, fabrication of control systems, petroleum engineering, and process control engineering.
Academy Participants
Students who have the potential to attend a four- year college and/or desire to be prepared for a career in a technical job as well as:
Have an interest in math and science
Are willing to commit themselves to good attendance, good work habits, good grades, and appropriate behavior
Have the desire to enroll in a rigorous academic and career technical college preparatory sequence of courses

Applications for new students:
- If the student is not a current South High student and would need to transfer to the school ; and I will need an inter-district transfer from another school in the area to participate in this academic academy, I understand that I must pick up the inter-district form from that high school. If I am dropped from the current South academy program for any reason, I understand that the inter-district transfer may be revoked at that time.
- If the admission is approved for curriculum reasons prior to South High enrollment, that admission is a conditional approval based on status for an approved IDT with Kern High School District (room at the requested school and room in the program, and both site administrative teams would review and dialogue when applicable).
KHSD School Support Services: You may file a transfer request for an Intra District Transfer (IDT) and you will need to provide a reason and supporting information. Each school site will evaluate your request based on the information you submit while also considering the capacity at the selected school site. No transportation is provided for transfers.
