Career Workshops : The Senior Counseling Team will be providing virtual workshops to introduce our high school students to professions in various industry sectors, explore careers, and start creating a plan for after high school.  See below for upcoming Career Workshops hosted by South High School or KHSD.
 
  • CTE Guest Speaker Series: is is a FREE weekly event and kicks off on March 9th from 1:30 to 2:30 PM and every Tuesday after, this will be viewable ONLINE. The purpose of the KHSD CTE Guest Speaker Series is to introduce high school students to professionals in various industry sectors and expose them to careers within our community. Every week we will be featuring an industry professional from one of the 15 CTE sectors, so be sure to check weekly to see who the featured speaker will be. Register Online Here!
 
College Workshops: The Counseling Senior Team will be providing virtual workshops to help SENIORS with the college process, submitting CSU/UC applications, financial aid, scholarships, community college applications, and much more.  Join the College and Career Center Lobby for assistance. See below for upcoming college support events.
 
  • College and Career Events for May 2021 - 
    • CSU's Deadline Extended - To see if your desired CSU school and program/major is still accepting applications use this link: https://www2.calstate.edu/apply/pages/application-dates-deadlines.aspx.  
    • Community College Application Workshops: Contact the community college of your choice to receive assistance with your community college application or stop by the College Lobby for support.
    • Bakersfield College Application/Registration Assistance:  Visit the Career Center Lobby or Contact Ms. Valdez (Cal-Soap Student Success Coach) to receive assistance with applying or registering for classes at BC.
  • Next Steps to Success-  Seniors, make sure to complete the Next Steps to Success Module in your English canvas course to complete the next steps to attending community college or 4 year college. For assistance contact Ms. Valdez, Cal-Soap Student Success Coach.                                              
  • Cash For College Workshops - Did you miss the March 2nd deadline?! You can still receive assistance with completing your Financial Aid application in the College Lobby or CAL-Soap Lobby. See details below.
  • UC Success Night-  If you were accepted into a University of California, join us for a UC drive-thru celebration on Thursday, May 6th. By invitation only.  Contact Ms. Lopez to RSVP or for more information.
  • College/Military Signing Day-  If you were accepted into a 4 year college (CSU/UC) or plan on entering the military, join us for a VIRTUAL college/military signing day on Wednesday, May 12th at 7 pm. By invitation only.
  • College Picture Booth/Star Pick Up-  Join us on May 13th, 3 pm - 5 pm in the Student Parking Lot to take pictures and pick up your personalized STAR with all your schools.  Make sure to fill out the google form posted in senior google classroom so we can create a star for you. SAT/ACT Information:
Due to school closures, the Kern High School District will not be administering these exams until schools fully reopen.  Colleges and Universities are waiving SAT and SAT tests but are recommended once students can take the tests.  For additional information about these tests, go to: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/sat
