Kern County College Night took place on September 11th, 2023, at the Mechanics Bank Arena Convention Center. Mr. Romero from the South High Parent Center took a bus of South High students and parents to the event to help expose seniors to various colleges. Colleges from all around the country were present such as the Universities of Wyoming, Oregon, and Alaska just to name a few of them. Representatives from different colleges were available to give students information about their school, such as Gerson Barriens from Hope International University, who described HIU as “very small and very personalized.” College Night wasn’t just about college; it was about finding something to do after high school, so other programs were present as well, such as the military, the Air Force and various trade schools. Overall, it was a very successful night for South High students who attended College Night because students left knowing more about what they want to do for the rest of their lives.
