A Race to the End by Lucas Lopez and Vern Varian (South High Seniors)

The South High Cross Country team went to Hart Park on November 9th to partake in the Cross Country League championship meet. The whole team went and put forward their best effort. The League championship meet takes place at the end of the season and is the culmination of the hard work put forward by both the athletes and their coaches.  Coach Cameron stated that her “favorite part about coaching is getting to see the kids improve throughout the season.” There was a total of five teams competing at the League championship, including South, West, North, East, and Tehachapi. The Spartan girls ended the evening with wins in Frosh/Soph, JV and Varsity. The boys did not come home empty handed; they won Varsity. “It was a very successful day for South High’s Cross Country team” stated Coach C. Medina, adding that it was his favorite part of this competition hearing that South had won 4 out of the 6 events. The Spartan runners were full of joy at the end of the meet and ready to begin training for next year. If any students are interested in joining the cross country team for next year, they can contact Coach C. Medina, Coach Cameron, or Coach Meraz for more information.
